The Grey Lady Kitchen & Deli

The Grey Lady Kitchen & Deli

A breakfast that's neither here nor there 🤷

The Grey Lady Kitchen & Deli is located just opposite the vast Bradgate Park of Leicestershire. The venue is relaxed and cutely furnished. They cater mainly for daytime meals, but also offer a simple evening menu on Fridays. This is not to be confused with The Grey Lady restaurant, which offers a formal dining experience – but both are ran by the same family.

There’s a quirky feel to the Kitchen & Deli. They have a corner dedicated to selling cute bric-a-brac where I could happily browse for hours. It’s definitely one of the popular places in the village. We advise to ring ahead to see if they have spaces before you make your way there if you’re not local.

Avocado, Lime & Chilli

★★★★

A very balanced dish with creamy mashed avocado smothered on top of two small slices of rye bread. The eggs were perfectly poached with a gooey runny centre. With a squeeze of lime, it really brought out the chilli in the avocado and added a zing to the dish.

Eggy Bread

★★★★★

Although a little lonely looking, the eggy bread was soft with a slight contrasting crispiness from the cooked eggy batter. The maple syrup was perfect in sweetness and served on the side so it’s not drowned in it. Something additional to liven up the dish would have been even better though.

American Style Buttermilk Pancakes

★★★★★

Again, another simple looking dish that would benefit from something extra on the plate. We liked the fact the blueberries were cooked into the batter and it was soft, but it lacked some flair.

The service was warm and the environment was lovely but the food we ordered left us feeling a little flat. The avocado toast was definitely the winner but we felt the other dishes needed more thought on making it look and taste more interesting.
